NEW Wax Ring and Pendant Carving Workshop - Friday 7th June 2024
Learn traditional wax carving techniques and create your own beautiful and unique silver ring and pendant - or two rings if you prefer!
No previous experience of jewellery making is needed and you will be guided through everything you need to know step-by-step, from sizing rings and sawing and filing wax blocks to carving beautiful details and patterns. Will you choose simple flowing shapes or more intricate patterns? The choice is yours!
We will start with carving rings and then after a quick lunch you can choose to use the skills you have learnt to create a pendant or a second ring.
After the session your items will be sent for casting and transformed into solid sterling silver using the lost wax casting method. They will then be hand finished and available to be posted back to you or collected from the studio approximately 2 weeks after the workshop.
If you usually wear reading glasses please remember to bring them with you. It would also be useful to bring photos and sketches of any ideas that you have, although examples and photos will be available for inspiration.
14 to 16 year olds are welcome but will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are included in the workshop fee.
Date and Venue
10am-4.30pm Friday 7th June 2024 at Fairways House, Mount Pleasant Road, Southampton, Hampshire. Full directions will be emailed.
Materials
Cost of the wax is included in the workshop fee, as is the casting fee for 2 items up to a total weight of 2g of wax. If your wax items jointly weigh between 2.01g and 2.5g there will be an additional cost of £20, payable on the day. If your items jointly weigh between 2.51g and 3g there will be an additional cost of £40, between 3.01g and 3.5g is an additional £60 and between 3.51g and 4g is an additional £80.
Gold plating can be arranged for one or both of your items. This takes a couple of weeks longer and the price will be calculated on the day.
Tools and Equipment
The workshop fee includes use of all the tools and equipment needed. All workshops discuss tools, equipment, materials and health and safety considerations.
Cancellations
Cancellations of workshop places and private tuition bookings within four weeks of the event will forfeit the workshop/private tuition fee unless I am able to find someone to take your place. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.
Please note that if you have requested a printable gift certificate they can take up to 24 hours to be produced as each is individually personalised.
